Cashier SOP Template: 6 Scenarios to Cover

A cashier SOP doesn't need to be long. One page covering 6 critical scenarios is enough.

Why a Written SOP

Without a written SOP, every cashier creates their own process. One handles discounts differently from another. One never closes a shift properly. An SOP isn't bureaucracy — it's a consistency tool.

6 Scenarios

1. Opening Shift: Log in with PIN → count physical cash → input opening balance → start.

2. Taking Orders: Ask dine-in/take-away → input in POS → confirm with customer → send to kitchen.

3. Processing Payment: State total → accept cash/scan → give change → hand receipt.

4. Handling Discounts: Within threshold: allowed directly. Above threshold → request manager PIN + provide reason.

5. Closing Shift: Count physical cash → input in system → note discrepancies → deposit.

6. Troubleshooting: Printer error → restart, retry, use screen preview as fallback. Internet down → switch to hotspot backup. Customer complaint → call manager.

Format

One page, large font, lots of bullet points. Laminate it, pin it near the register. New cashiers read it before their first shift.
